NASA launches unmanned aircraft

NASA has flown an unmanned aircraft through civilian air space without a safety chase plane for the first time. The Ikhana is a civilian version of the Air Force’s MQ-9 Predator B aircraft with avoid-and-detect technologies, which could be used by airlines in the future. Tuesday’s flight across California was controlled at Edwards Air Force Base in Mojave.
