The Independent Living Center of Kern County celebrated the 28th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act by holding workshops in Bakersfield to help people know their rights.

Resource Development Manager Jan Lemucchi says the law has made a difference for the 11% of Kern County residents who live with a disability, but she hopes city leaders make more of an effort to install accessible sidewalks and infrastructure.

The most popular workshop was on service dogs, which are protected under the law.
