Members of the Bakersfield Police Department and the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office are mourning the loss of Daryl Thiessen, who was a founding member of the Bakersfield Safe Street Coalition. The project worked to redirect young people away from gang violence. Thiesen was also known for his innovative programs in schools. He had Lou Gherig’s Disease.
