Kate Steinle’s Parents Lose Appeal On Suing San Francisco

(San Francisco, CA) — A federal appeals court ruling prohibits the parents of Kate Steinle from suing the city of San Francisco. Steinle was shot and killed by illegal immigrant Jose Garcia Zarate in 2015. Her death was ruled an accident by a jury in San Francisco in 2017. Later that year, a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit by Steinle’s parents against the city, and an appeal was filed shortly after that. Today, Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said they were upholding the original ruling, and that the city’s sheriff acted within departmental policies under San Francisco’s sanctuary city ordinance.
