Alleged mass shooting hoaxer wanted to nix LA fair trip

POMONA, Calif. (AP) – Authorities have arrested a Southern California man they say sent a phony warning about a mass shooting so he wouldn’t have to go to the Los Angeles County Fair with his parents.

Pomona police say fair officials received an email Friday warning that someone was planning a mass shooting on Sunday at the fairgrounds in Pomona. The officials increased security after the warning.

An investigation ended with the quick arrest of 22-year-old Erik Villasenor, who lives with his parents in Sylmar.

Pomona Police Chief Michael Olivieri says Villasenor acknowledged his warning was a hoax.

Villasenor remains jailed on $20,000 bail. It’s not immediately clear if he has an attorney to speak on his behalf.
