Kern Sheriff Arrests Two Teens on Firearms Violation

Acting on a tip from a resident, the Kern Sheriff took two teens into custody for a firearm violation Monday.KCSO Press Release

On Monday, February 17, 2020, deputies from the Wasco City Substation received information of an unlawful possession of a firearm. At approximately 3:00pm, deputies located Daniel Malanche, an 18-year-old male from Wasco, and a 17-year-old male juvenile in the 700 block of Cypress Avenue in Wasco. During the investigation, deputies located a loaded firearm that had been discarded in the area where the subjects were stopped.

Deputies arrested Malanche for unlawfully carrying a firearm on his person or in a vehicle, possession of a firearm by an active criminal street gang member, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of a firearm while under the influence of a controlled substance, felon in possession of a firearm, conspiracy, participation in a criminal street gang, and possession of a large capacity magazine. Malanche was booked into the Kern County Jail. Deputies also arrested the 17-year-old juvenile for false identification to a peace officer, participation in a criminal street gang, possession of a firearm by an active criminal street gang member, and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm in a public place. The 17-year-old juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall.
