Arvin Facing New Water Regulations Next Week

New residential and commercial conservation mandates are soon to be implemented in Arvin, restricting landscape and lawn-watering to Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Fernando Pantoja with the Arvin Community Services District said the new rules will be enacted May 4 after being approved by the Arvin City Council.

“We’ll have staff going out that day – just going out and giving them a second notification,” he said. “Everybody will be notified by billing.”

He said police will be on patrol, looking for watering on prohibited days. They’ll also be looking for watering from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. – something that’s also restricted under the new law.

“It’s a $50 first-time offense, $100 for a second fine, from there it goes to $250, then the max fine is $500,” he said.

The city is trying to meet a proposed 32 percent conservation mandate outlined by the State Water Resources Control Board.
