FATHER ACCUSED OF MURDERING INFANT CAN STAND TRIAL

The Bakersfield father accused of beating his infant son to death has been found competent to stand trial.

The defense attorney for Stepfon Jones argued that multiple tests show he has a developmental disability, and he has been in mental health facilities his entire life.

The prosecution countered that Jones told his mother on a recorded phone call that he wanted to go to Patton State Hospital because it was more comfortable than Lerdo Jail, where he is being held.

A trial date has not been set.
