PROGRAM SEEKS TO KEEP KIDS FROM PESTICIDES

A report from the Center on Race, Poverty and the Environment shows Latino children in Kern County are at a much higher risk of cancer and other diseases due to exposure to pesticides.

Spokeswoman Valerie Gorospe says they are working with local ag agencies and the Kern High School district on a pilot program that would cut down pesticide exposure in farm communities through stricter reporting standards. Gorospe hopes to expand the program to all schools in the near future and then use it in other parts of the state.
