HOUSING FEELS A SUMMER CHILL

Bakersfield’s housing market is cooling off early this year.Homes sales are heading for a cool summer in Bakersfield as the traditional buying season appears to have peaked in June rather than July. Gary Crabtree of Affiliated Appraisers said Kern County’s sluggish economy has depressed home sales despite what continues to be one of California’s most affordable housing markets. The median existing home price in Bakersfield dropped by more than $10 thousand from May to June and now stands at just under $250 thousand. Home sales slumped by 12 percent in June compared to May.
