The Community Action Partnership of Kern’s food bank is handing out fresh produce.The free farmer’s market is Saturday morning, September 3rd, from 8:00 to 11:00 AM at the Kern County Fairgrounds, Gate 30. CAPK selected the fairgrounds because it’s in the thick of a “food desert” where there are no places to buy fresh fruits and vegetables in the vicinity. Local farms have donated the produce with much of it coming at the end of the harvest season. CAPK’s Maureen Andrews says that means growers are giving away donations when their products are getting the best prices and she points out that the quality of what’s been given is tops. “It’s just gorgeous produce.” she says.
