The Kern County Parks and Recreation Department is about to go away after Supervisors voted to merge it into General Services. Tuesday’s vote means the General Service will be soon in charge of care and maintenance of the parks. The Parks Department does not offer recreation programs after years of staff cuts turned it into being more of a facilities manager. That’s what General Services does and is why Supervisors approved the transition as of November 1st with no jobs being cut. Parks Director Bob Lerude is retiring in December.
