SAM LYNN LOOKS TO STAY IN THE GAME

Sam Lynn Ballpark may still have some baseball in its future despite the loss of the Bakersfield Blaze minor league team. County Parks Director Bob Lerude says they’ve had plenty of interest from others who want to play ball at the 75-year-old stadium. The Pecos League is an independent, semi-professional league with ten teams that play a short season but Lerude says there’s more possibilities including academies plus Babe Ruth and high school tournaments. What would not happen is the land be sold or converted to another purpose. State law makes it extremely difficult to sell park land or turn it into non-park uses and Sam Lynn is County Park property.
