MISDEMEANOR LIST IS DROPPED

Misdemeanors are again being prosecuted in Kern County as the District Attorney announced funding for two new deputy prosecutors. D.A. Lisa Green says state funding is coming from the Community Correction Partnership which counties get for prison realignment and the new hires will be on the job in December. However, the office is ready to take on misdemeanor cases as of Thursday. County budget cuts have lead to certain low-level crimes being let go for the past three weeks. Green says they lost three prosecutors and will only get back two for the next three years but they’ll find a way to continue pressing charges for low-level cases.
