DUI HIT AND RUN DRIVER SENTENCED

A man who pleaded no contest to killing a pedestrian in a DUI crash southeast of Bakersfield has been sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison.

Abraham Maciel, Jr. sped away and didn’t call police after hitting Gloria Yancey on Weedpatch Highway near Kernita Road in February. In a letter given to the victim’s family on Monday, Maciel took full responsibility for his actions.

He also loses his license for three years and must pay restitution to the Yancey family.
