The federal government says the gross domestic product of Kern County has been shrinking. Economic output dropped 6.5 percent to $35.8 Billion in 2015 lead by declines in the construction and government sectors. Neighboring counties all had positive product growth last year. However, the good news is that construction and government sectors have seen some recovery by the middle of this year.
