DEPUTIES CRACK DOWN ON UNDERAGE DRINKING

A $100,000 grant is helping Sheriff’s deputies cut down underage drinking at the Kern County Fair. The money from California Alcoholic Beverage Control allows deputies to look out for kids taking a sip or vendors who sell to minors, but Detective David Weigand says they generally do not ticket those who get scammed by a good fake ID.

Deputies think 50 people will be ticketed for either underage drinking or giving alcohol to minors before the Fair ends. 26 have been cited so far.
