BROWN SIGNS AND VETOES

The Governor has been busy sifting through the pile of legislation ahead of his September 30th deadline to sign or veto bills.Gov. Brown has vetoed a bill that would have expanded parental leave to six weeks with more kinds situations qualifying for leave. Senate Bill 654 was rejected with Brown saying he’s concerned about how small businesses could be vulnerable to lawsuits. He recommended the author revise the bill to allow for mediation rather that litigation. Meanwhile, A bill has been signed into law requiring California religious schools inform incoming students about policies regarding sexual activity ahead of admission. Senate Bill 1146 is a watered-down version that does not mandate hiring or curriculum policies like the original. It’s intended to make sure there are no surprises after enrollment.
