The former Bakersfield Police detective who’s due to be sentenced Monday for taking bribes, drug trafficking and cheating on his taxes has filed a lengthy statement with the court detailing his downfall. Attorney David Torres tells the Bakersfield Californian that Damacio Diaz only “wants to help” the department, even as he implies inappropriate, possibly criminal goings-on within BPD.

Diaz was one of the runners profiled in the Disney movie MCFARLAND USA.
