The former Bakersfield Police detective who pleaded guilty to drugs, bribery and cheating on his taxes is due for sentencing Monday in Fresno federal court. Damacio Diaz is facing up to 22 years in prison but could get much less time for cooperating into a wider investigation.
He filed a long letter to the court last week alleging corruption in BPD’s narcotics department. Police are withholding comment until Diaz’s partner, Patrick Mara, is sentenced later this month.
