Former Bakersfield police detective Damacio Diaz has been sentenced to five years in prison.He pleaded guilty in May on bribery, drug and tax evasion charges. A federal judge handed down the sentence in Fresno Monday despite recommendations from prosecutors and probation that he be given at least 17 to 22 years saying he had abused his position as a narcotics detective for personal gain. The defendant reiterated that accusations he has made about corruption in the Bakersfield Police Department are true. Diaz reports to prison December 5th.
