The Kern County Board of Trade is taking applications for tourism grants. The grant program continues after Supervisors voted to spend $100 thousand for a 16th year. Assistant County Administrative Officer Teresa Hitchcock says the money is well spent even in tough budget times. Tourism brought in $1.37 Billion last year and directly provides over 15 thousand jobs. Non-profit groups that have events or services promoting tourism can get up to $10 thousand for the grants that are awarded in January.
