Firefighters had to close Highway 178 the lower Kern Canyon to deal with a small grass fire that broke out on the side of the road. The Richbar Fire was spotted near Breckenridge Mountain at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon, and the U.S. Forest Service was concerned it could reach the nearby Sequoia National Forest.

The Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management helped keep the flames to three acres.
