Two one-year-olds are back with their mother after a carjacking in central Bakersfield.

Police say Jesus Vences took the vehicle at East 19th Street and went to a trailer near Niles and Oswell streets around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, then pulled a knife when officers tried to arrest him.

Detectives say he is not related to the family, but his motive for the kidnapping is unclear.
