LONG TERM FOR SHOOTOUT DEFENDANT

A man charged with 31 counts in last year’s gun battle with deputies and CHP officers has taken a plea deal. The agreement puts 49-year-old Darren Aldridge in prison for 29 years. Wednesday’s sentencing was satisfactory even though prosecutors had to drop all but three charges to get him to plead no contest. He will not be eligible for parole until he serves at least 85 percent of the sentence, or about 24 years. No one was hurt when Aldridge shot at officers in a four-hour standoff at his home near Olive Drive and Patton Way in September 2015.
