Bakersfield City Schools are working to address truancy, just as the state releases its own update.

Instructional Support Services Director Tim Fulenwider says the BCSD daily attendance rate improved last year to 95.1-percent, and they’ve added a Family and Community Liaison at each school site to let parents know if their kid is skipping class.

Wednesday’s state report shows 7.3-percent of elementary students missed at least 10-percent of the school year.
