WESTBOUND HIGHWAY 58 BACK OPEN, EASTBOUND STAYS SHUT

The westbound lanes of Highway 58 are back open, but it may take several hours before the eastbound lanes reopened as crews mop up 5,000 gallons of spilled fuel.

The CHP says the problem started Sunday night around 11:15 when 29-year-old William Abney’s tanker swerved off the eastbound lanes near Towerline Road. He was then hit from behind by a sports car, piercing the tank and causing the spill. Another driver going the opposite way was hit by debris. All three are okay.

The CHP is investigating whether Abney was tired at the time of the accident. The eastbound lanes will reopen once crews repave them.
