It took Bakersfield firefighters about 30 minutes to cap a broken fire hydrant downtown after it was struck by a Kern Transit bus. It’s not clear why the bus hit the hydrant on Chester Avenue and 22nd Street Monday night, which caused a huge gusher of water at that intersection.
