The Kern County Fire Department has sent two captains to help fight the wildfires sweeping across the Southeast. Captain Sean Collins has been in North Carolina for a few weeks as a fire information officer in an area hit with extremely dry conditions and numerous wildfires. Captain Jake Cagle is also in North Carolina as an Section Chief, both are east of where the Gatlinburg, Tennessee fire has killed seven and destroyed hundreds of homes.
