Arson investigators are looking into the cause of an early morning fire Friday at a vacant east Bakersfield apartment building. Smoke and flames were reported around 2:30 at the structure on Miller and Bernard streets, but no one was inside when crews arrived.

Warming fires set by squatters are common this time of year.
