Cal Fire is helping the Kern County Fire Department deal with tree mortality.The target areas are around Bear Valley Springs and Alta Sierra. The state fire agency is providing $400 thousand in grants and high tech chipping and transport equipment that can track into forest areas where dead trees have to be removed. Tree removal begins in the spring.
