Kern County Fire is getting $400,000 in Cal Fire grants to help clear dead trees near homes and access roads in Bear Valley Springs and Alta Sierra.

Forester Jeff Gletne estimates each tree will cost about $1000 to remove. The department will also be getting an off-road trailer that can get into hard to reach places.
