Kern County firefighters were able to save a person after a vacant grocery store caught fire in east Bakersfield.

Crews were called to Niles Street and Sterling Road around 6:15 Sunday morning and used a helicopter to put out the flames. Damage is estimated at $250,000. The cause of the fire is not known.
