The man who was charged with killing his girlfriend and cutting a baby from her womb last month is dead. 28-year-old Manuel Vela was found unresponsive in his cell at the Lerdo Jail on Saturday afternoon in what the Sheriff’s office says is a possible suicide, but no cause of death has been determined. Vela was not on suicide watch and had no cell mate.
