SUPERVISORS WEIGH FIREFIGHTER CUTS

Supervisors heard from several firefighters and community leaders about staffing reductions at nine rural stations that are currently on hold.

Assistant Administrative Officer Nancy Lawson reminded the board Tuesday the Union agreed to the cuts in October as a way to prevent layoffs, while community members argued that the firefighters should stay put because they pay taxes to support them.

Staff and the Union were told to look for creative ways to get around the reductions as the department closes an almost $18 million budget deficit.
