An election will be held to replace Bakersfield City Councilman Jeff Tkac who took his own life last month. Vice Mayor Bob Smith made the motion Wednesday night to attach the Ward 5 election to a county ballot being held in June, the rest of the council agreed that would be better than appointing a new member themselves. Signatures were being gathered in southwest Bakersfield to call for a special election, there is almost a full term remaining for the Ward 5 seat.
