LAMONT FLOOD PLAN FORMING

A feasibility study is being made on how to stop Caliente Creek from flooding Lamont. The floods come whenever there is a major rainstorm. Public Works Director Greg Fenton told Supervisors Tuesday that farmers have been building berms to protect their land, but they channel water south to flood roads and the town. The Farm Bureau cites a state law requiring farmers to prevent water on their land from being allowed to go elsewhere or face major fines. Stakeholders are scheduled to meet Thursday to begin a process of finding ways to protect farm land and public spaces.
