Kern County highways and roads may soon be getting a technological upgrade.

Backers of the Intelligent Transportation Systems plan believe installing more cameras and getting accurate weather tracking equipment will keep roads open during storms, which they argue would be better for both drivers and logistics companies.

The Kern Council of Governments must still agree to the federally-funded plan before Supervisors can give final approval.
