A major Kern County crop could be facing serious challenges because of the recent stormy weather. Almond orchards have been struck by wind and rain just as orchards are blooming, Almond grower Mike Wood says having flowers knocked off isn’t the only problem, bees are also bothered by it. Warm, dry weather and calm conditions are needed to get the imported hives active. The extent of the damage won’t be known for about another month as the nuts set on the trees, almonds were a $1.5 Billion crop in Kern County in 2015.
