The Bakersfield SPCA has been given a $60,000 grant to spay and neuter more than 800 cats.

Executive Director Julie Johnson says the money from PetSmart Charities will mostly be used to fix feral cats to combat the overpopulation problem. Johnson says the grant also gives them a head start to fix the animals before peak breeding season begins in March.
