The CHP says a man who left the scene of a hit and run accident on southbound 99 has been killed after slamming into a metal freeway sign at high speed.

It happened around 11:00 Wednesday night at Laval Road near the base of the Grapevine, and the victim was ejected from his truck. Investigators say a witness apparently pulled him from the burning wreckage and left the scene.
