SIMPSON GETS PLAQUE IN OILDALE

A plaque has been placed at the Rasmussen Senior Center in Oildale to honor Bakersfield Sound pioneer Red Simpson.

The late singer-songwriter’s family and friends came out to the unveiling at the center on Roberts Lane Monday morning; Simpson had entertained seniors there for 20 years.

The plaque is the first in a series honoring famous residents that the Citizens Preserving History charity is installing around town. The group needs $300 more to be able to install the frame.

A campaign has also been launched to name a portion of Highway 99 after the “I’m A Truck” singer.
