HEALTHY FOODS IN SHORT SUPPLY

A new survey from Kern County Public Health finds there’s a real problem when it comes to the availability of healthy foods.

Assistant Health Director Brynn Carrigan says it’s not just that people are unwilling to consider healthy choices when they shop for food–it can be too expensive for stores to carry it, especially due to refrigeration costs.

The survey found only 27% of stores in our county sell low-fat or non-fat milk, down from 43% in 2013.
