A grass fire soon turned to a structure fire at a home on Melwood Street.Melwood is near Cottonwood Road in south Bakersfield. Engines responded just before 6:00 Wednesday morning and found the vegetation burning behind the home had caught an outbuilding on fire. The crew was able to keep the flames from the house, a cause and damage estimate is unknown.
