MEAT FOR FRIDAY, THIS TIME ONLY

The Archbishop of the Valley’s Catholics has given a special dispensation during this season of Lent. The pronouncement is allowing the faithful to eat the traditional Irish corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day. Archbishop Armando Ocho of the Diocese of Fresno is making the exception because the holiday falls on a Friday when the faithful aren’t supposed to eat meat. Corned beef and cabbage is a tradition among Irish-Americans who could rarely get either back in their homeland, so it became popular for immigrants.
