A $100 million lawsuit has been filed against the Kern High School District. The suit was filed Friday by former Police Chief Joe Lopeteguy. Attorney Seth O’Dell says the suit filed Friday claims the chief lost his job over misuse of a police database which led to health problems, including having open heart surgery following stress and high blood pressure. O’Dell says Lopeteguy brought misuse of the database to the district’s attention only to be put on leave and accused of misusing it himself, the district says they cannot comment. The suit contends thousands of district students and employees had private data accessed by administrators in violation of the law.
