HOUSES COME DOWN ALONG 24TH STREET

The city of Bakersfield will be demolishing eight homes as the second and third phases of the 24th Street Widening Project get underway.

Public Works Director Nick Fidler says the knock downs that start Wednesday are part of a larger plan to revitalize the downtown area by making it easier for businesses and people to get there. It should take about a month for those phases to be complete.

Opponents of the $35 million plan are suing to get the city to connect downtown to Highway 99 in another way.
