Bakersfield police have applied for a grant to get a system of microphones to alert them to gunshots. The Shot Spotter system alerted Fresno police to Tuesday’s murder spree so they arrived before others could be killed. Police say, if they get the grant, microphones would be installed in a part of east Bakersfield that has the most gang shootings. If they get the grant, it would be for a two-year program in the area around Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
