SHERIFF CALLS FOR ANTI-SANCTUARY

Sheriff Donny Youngblood is asking the Board of Supervisors to weigh in on the sanctuary controversy with a resolution. He plans to request a vote from the board at the May 2nd morning meeting to let it be known where Kern County stands with his Law and Order resolution. Youngblood says he has spoken to the board members about the resolution but can’t say if they’ll pass it, he fears our county could lose federal funding should California pass a bill to become a sanctuary state. The Sheriff counters those who say such moves incite fear in immigrant communities by saying he hasn’t seen that. He says having ICE agents in his jail looking for violent criminal immigrants creates less fear that having federal agents looking for them on the streets.
