Kern County firefighters had to rescue a man who tried to put out a fire with a garden hose at an abandoned east Bakersfield triplex.

The buildings on Flower Street near Orange Drive went up in flames just after 10:00 Saturday night. He was uninjured, but the complex has $100,000 worth of damage.
